Hi, my name is Dan. During my competitive swimming career, I have won a number of remarkable awards, including 2nd and 3rd place at the Junior National Russian Championship in 2004 and 3rd place at the NCAA D III National Championship in 2011 and 2012. I have also been an NCAA D III All-American Team member eight times, the most recent one being the 2019 Summer USMS National champion.

Since 2009 I have been sharing my passion and the knowledge with many of my students and help them to achieve their needs and goals in the water. Now, I want to share my knowledge with you!

The Early Years

I was born in Russia, and from a very young boy, I was fascinated by the water. Whether playing around in the local pool or swimming in the nearby rivers during summer, the feeling of freedom and enjoyment I found in the water couldn't match anything else. My parents recognized this passion of mine early on, and at the tender age of six, I was already enrolled in swimming lessons. Little did they know that this decision would shape the rest of my life.

From lesson one, I was in love. I liked the sensation of gliding through the water, overcoming the challenge of mastering new strokes, and the adrenaline surge when racing against my peers. My coaches saw potential in me; they encouraged me to train harder and see the limits beyond my abilities. By age ten, I had started attending state swim meets and winning medals.

Competitive Swimming

It was during my teens that my competitive swimming career really took off. I soon found myself competing at higher and higher levels until finally, in 2004, I won 2nd and 3rd place at the Junior National Russian Championship.

Memories from that swim meet are something I will cherish for the rest of my life — standing on the podium, hearing the crowd roar, and the weight of the medal wrapped around my neck. That moment has fueled my burning desire to accomplish more and reach greater heights in my swimming career.
I came to the United States for college to chase my dreams of better training and exploring new horizons. This was a huge change, but it opened doors I had not considered. I swam for my college team and became a two-time NCAA Division III National Championship competitor in 2011 and 2012, finishing third. Through hard work, I earned the NCAA Division III All-American award eight times.

In 2019, I became the Summer USMS National Champion, one of the highest spots and career highlights. Once again, the years of hard work, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence paid off.

Transition to Coaching

Though the competitive swimming achievements were satisfying, I found a new joy in sharing knowledge and skills with others. Since 2009, I have been coaching swimmers of all levels of ability.

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing my students overcome their fears, improve their techniques, and finally achieve the goals they set at the beginning of their swimming journey. Each time one of my students does something well at the pool, it feels like a personal win; their progress feeds my love for coaching and swimming.
My transition to coaching was quite natural. The experience and lessons learned from being a competitive swimmer set a strong base for my coaching philosophy. I was eager to share my knowledge with swimmers facing these same obstacles.

I began coaching part-time while still competing, working with local swim teams and individual swimmers on techniques and strategies. I soon realized that teaching swimming was not just about techniques and mechanics; it was all about building confidence, fostering discipline, and simply loving the sport.

The more involved I became with coaching, the more evident its profound effect on my students was. Helping a true beginner swimmer master a new stroke or taking a competitive athlete to the best time has become more precious than any personal wins, and moments like these solidified my decision to coach full-time.
Incorporating technique, stamina, and mental preparedness work, I developed individual training programs that meet each swimmer's needs and goals. I created a holistic approach, considering the physical and cognitive components of swimming.

During the first couple of years, my career gained momentum, as did requests for my coaching. I realized that by opening my swim school, I would realize my full potential as a swim coach and help others gain valuable swimming skills. That vision led to the creation of DanSwim.

Founding DanSwim

In 2019, I founded Danswim in New York City. I envisioned a school that taught students to swim and fostered a love of the sport and the water. I wanted to give students a safe place where everyone feels supported, challenged, and inspired.

Launching Danswim was a dream come true. It was not an easy feat, but all those years of swimming and coaching prepared me to conquer the obstacles. I pulled together a team of talented, hardworking, and enthusiastic coaches who resonated with my vision.

We worked hard at creating individualized programs for students learning just the basics of swimming and competitive athletes looking to improve their performances.

Building a Leading Swim School

Building DanSwim into one of the top swim schools in New York City has been an extremely rewarding journey. From the beginning, I envisioned a place where every student feels valued and encouraged. I envisioned DanSwim as more than just a swim school—I wanted it to be a community.

Our coaches are the heart of Danswim. They are not just accomplished swimmers but also passionate teachers and mentors. They go out of their way to ensure every student gets all the necessary help to excel in the pool. We invest in continuous training and professional development for our coaches so they can always be at the top of their game.
Watching our students grow and achieve new results has been the most rewarding part of building DanSwim. We have helped thousands of students learn to swim, improve their skills, and eventually reach their goals. Many of our students have also competed in swim meets, joined swim teams, and even gained new career opportunities because of swimming. Their success stories show the efficiency of our program and the dedication of our team.

Looking Ahead

Looking back on my journey from a little boy growing up in Russia to a competitive swimmer and now the founder of one of the top swim schools in New York City, I am filled with gratitude and pride. The sport has given me so much, and being able to share that gift with others is incredibly fulfilling.

The future for DanSwim is bright. We're continuously looking for innovative ways to enhance our programs and expand our services to more students while giving back to the community. Our commitment to excellence is stronger than ever, be it additional facilities, brand-new equipment, or innovations in training methods.
Today, DanSwim teaches thousands of students every year. Our reach goes beyond New York City, with students arriving from various regions to learn with our coaches, who have years of experience in swimming. We unified a community of students and parents working with our coaches toward extraordinary results. This growth is a testament to our team's dedication and hard work.

I am so excited about what the future holds for Danswim and each student stepping through our doors. I am thrilled to continue to inspire, educate, and empower people toward swimming dreams and beyond. Swimming can be truly life-changing, and with DanSwim, this change is closer for every student joining us.
